To create a new Facebook application you need to add the Facebook Developers to your profile.
Go to http://www.new.facebook.com/developers/
If you haven’t added the Facebook Developers to your profile it will prompt you to add it to your profile.
Step 2
The Facebook Developers section looks like this

Click the “Set Up New Application” button to create a new application
Step 3
Write down your application name in the box and check the check box below then click Submit.
Step 4
After you submit the form above you will be moved to your application list. You can change all types of settings for your application at Facebook from this screen. (See the picture on next page)
First notice that above all, in the yellow box it says “API key created” and this declares that Facebook has created a new set of API key and Secret for your new application which is unique. You can see the API key and Secret for your new application on the right column. Carefully copy/write down your API Key and Secret in a notepad (you will need them in your application files).
Now click the Edit Settings link to modify your application settings.
You can view this page any time and make changes to your applications settings or other stuffs.
Step 5
At the Edit Settings section you have to setup the application parameters very carefully. Make sure you know all the data precisely before you go through the setup process.
Check the picture on next page very carefully and modify/input the parameters step-by-step.
1. Application Name: This is already setup and what you put on the previous screen while creating the new application.
2. Developer Contact E-mail: This is the email to which Facebook contacts with the developer. You will see your email address associated with your Facebook profile here already.
3. User Support E-mail: This email id is used to sent the messages sent by users on the application help page.
4. Callback URL: This is the url where your facebook application files are hosted. You must be very careful about this url and make sure it points to your application files properly.
For example if your url is http://www.yourdomain.com and you will put your files in a folder called “myapplication” then the callback url will be http://www.yourdomain.com/myapplication/
Remember you have to put a trailing slash (/) while inputting the callback URL and if you forget to put that, your app won’t work properly.
5. Canvas Page URL: This is the canvas page inside facebook and the url to your application. Users will go to this URL to visit the application.
Notice that facebook already limited it to http://apps.facebook.com/ and there is box where you have to put your unique identifier for the application.
You can put anything that you like but make sure you put something that is related to your app title and also (if possible) related to your Callback URL you specified in the previous step.
For example if you put http://www.yourdomain.com/myapplication/ as Callback URL then try to put “myapplication” in that box So your Canvas Page URL will be http://apps.facebook.com/myapplication/ . Though it’s not necessary but it will help you to manage your application files easily.
Also remember this must be at least 7 characters long and will not accept numbers or underscores.
6. Can your application be added on Faebook? : Select the “Yes” and after selecting this you will find more options will come up below the page.
7. Icon and Logo: You can change the icon and logo of you app here or leave it for now. You can always come back and change them whenever you like.
8. Check the “Users” and select “All Pages”.
9. Post-Add URL: Input your application Canvas Page URL (http://apps.facebook.com/myapplication/ in our example) and don’t forget the trailing slash (/).
10. Side Nav URL: Once again input your application Canvas Page URL (http://apps.facebook.com/myapplication/ in our example).
11. Hit Save and you are ready to launch your first Facebook Application.
Upload all the files for your application in the specified folder (specified in your callback URL). Open your favorite web browser and go to your Canvas Page URL. If you managed to complete all the above steps properly it will ask you to add your application.
See the notes below to get some more ideas.
NOTE:
1. You can modify your about page from the “Edit About Page” link at the “My Application” page.
2. Try to prepare your application settings data before you start setting up the application.
3. If after completing all the step, your application doesn’t show up then go direct to your Callback URL. If it shows up then you did something wrong with application settings or else you will find the error there.
4. If you like to create a new facebook page you can visit http://facebook-developer.net/2007/11/07/introduction-to-creating-facebook-pages/
Special Notes
Facebook added some more setting after launching the New Facebook Profile Layout but they are not absolutely necessary right now. We will be adding explanations to those in our next version of this document.
